A Pocket Full of Seeds

Meet the inspiring Jo.

Bendigo, VIC

Hello! I’m Jo & this is my roots…

A Pocket Full of Seeds stemmed from when I was pregnant with my first baby…

I was on a mission to give this bub the best start, eat as healthily as possible and I wanted to know where my vegetables were coming from! I wanted home-grown produce.

So one day I found myself standing in the garden section of our local hardware store, staring at a wall of garden seeds with no idea of what to choose or when to grow it. Packet instructions such as ‘sow deep direct’ and ‘when the first truss has set’ was like reading a foreign language. I had no idea where to start. I left the store seedless.

There’s a lot to learn! It can be hard work keeping a plant alive!
So learn, I did. I started with my first veggie patch crates and killed my first dozen seedlings.

My husband still mocks me for covering all my crates with glad wrap (in the middle of summer) to create ‘hot houses’ and I wondered why they didn’t survive the afternoon…

So after years of trial and error I came to realise there isn’t really a trick to gardening, we just need to create an environment that supports the growth of specific plants. But it doesn’t need to be as complicated as it may seem.
I love going out to the veggie patch to pick fresh produce to prepare the night’s dinner! My aim is to help others grow sustainable year-round produce in their own backyard (be it a large vegetable patch or a patio container garden). My garden kits include
  • quality seed with verified germination success (so you know your little seeds are going to sprout).
  • growing medium (starter pots with soil) that provide all the necessary nutrients for your emerging seedlings.
  • A climate guide so you know when to sow each seed variety (depending on where you live).

So all you need to add is water and sunshine!

I include specific, easy to understand instructions that take the guesswork out of gardening. You will be able to manage pest and disease control so that your plants can flourish without the use of harsh chemicals. And I include our family favourite recipes so you can make the most out of your produce! You don’t need a lot of space or time to grow a garden, you don’t even need green thumbs. You just need the right tools and the right information.

Happy Gardening!
